UX/UI DESIGN

User experience is the perfect way to utilize my skills in graphic design and visual communications. Understanding the way a customer thinks and displaying information in ways that are intuitive and easy to follow is what I have been doing professionally for almost two decades.

Let me take you through the process of creating an interactive prototype.

UX/UI CASE STUDY

INTRODUCTION

UX Collab pic

As a graduate of the UX Design Institute, I was able to combine my professional experience as a creative communication with my strong knowledge base regarding customer intuition in visual concept development. Deepening my professional education, I learned a lot of principles and academic curriculum in UX/UI design, applying these professional and academic techniques to my projects.

While I apply user experience naturally to all of my professional approaches, I would like to share a UX case study I completed. This project allowed me to focus on UX/UI concepts, prin-ciples, and design as a specific skill set I developed. Below I will take you through the process and steps, with actual photos and diagrams and sketches, I took and created while working on this project.

USABILITY TESTING & NOTE TAKING

From my experience, practicing usability testing required me to in-terview a user and observe a user as she goes through the site, com-pleting certain tasks as requested by me. My role is to listen to the user as she navigates and explains her actions. I take notes and ob-serve how she navigates. Not only did I observe and take notes from a video, I also had to conduct my own interview (video available upon request).

AFFINITY DIAGRAM

I really enjoyed working on an affinity diagram. Working collaboratively or individually in the brainstorming process, I have fun organizing user information and data. It can be challenging to find patterns that may seem intuitive to the user. It is very rewarding when you can start to visualize and make sense of the qualitative information you get from your research.

After organizing and evaluating the post-its to better evaluate the card sorting the categories and sub categories start to appear. Finalization for consensus can be discussed with the teams and stakeholders.

JOURNEY MAPPING

In creating my UX journey map I was able to focus on the user experience as it applied to the specific website. It helps identify the state of the user as they navigate the site and its function-alities. You can see what the user likes about the site, as well as their pain points.

FLOW DIAGRAM

Creating a UX flow diagram can be meticulous as I map out every step the user takes—from entry point at the home page right through to the final interaction

INTERACTION DESIGN

I was able to apply my visual communications expertise to my information and data collection for this part of the project. I really had fun with the sketching and beginning to design the in-teractive digital products and environments of the project.

PROTOTYPE DESIGN w/ FIGMA

Learning how to use Figma to create a working prototype allowed me to learn a new tool and become familiar with new software. In the prototype below I have also included annotated notes to provide an extra layer of communication for the developers and reviewers.
